John M. Hickey

John M. Hickey has over 35 years of practice experience in the areas of estate planning, trusts, and probate law, federal and state taxation law, and business law.

Mr. Hickey received an LL.M. (in Taxation) from New York University School of Law in 1982, a J.D., cum laude, in 1981 from California Western School of Law, and a B.A. in 1977 from Tulane University of Louisiana. Mr. Hickey spent his junior year in the Tulane-Newcomb Junior Year Abroad Honors Program as a student at the University of Wales in Swansea.

Mr. Hickey is admitted to practice in the State of New Mexico (1983) and the State of California (1981). He is also admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court (1983) and the Federal District Court of New Mexico (1983).

Mr. Hickey was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Trusts & Estates Counsel (ACTEC) in 2003. Since 1994, Mr. Hickey has been a member of the Estate Planning Council of Santa Fe and was a member of the Board of Directors from 2007 through 2010. Since 1983, Mr. Hickey has been a member of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of New Mexico and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Taxation Section from 2002 to 2015.

Mr. Hickey has been listed in Best Lawyers in America as a Trusts and Estates lawyer since 2006. Mr. Hickey received the honor of being named Lawyer of the Year for Trusts and Estates in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the 2012, 2016, and 2021 Best Lawyers in America publication. Mr. Hickey was also named in Southwest SuperLawyers in 2008.
